Title: Brian's Song
Brian's Song is truly a book worth one thousand words. It's about two men of different race, becoming the best of friends. Brian Piccolo teases and plays silly pranks on Gale Sayers when they learn they will both be playing on the same football team. Gale gets back at him a few times, and they go back and forth. Suddenly, Gale's knee-cap was ripped while playing a football game. Brian helps him with his knee. 'Without you, I'm the best. Without you, Gale, there's no competition.' Brian says, as he and Gale race for whoever get to buy the other a drink.
Brian starts to get a whooping cough. The coach insists he go to the doctor. Brian is too stubborn, but his wife, Joy wants him to get well. She takes him in, and the doctors find a tumor in his lung. Joy Piccolo calls Gale and Linda Sayers at their home, and breaks the bad news to them. Linda bursts into tears, devastated, but Gale sits there, unbelieveing. He was probably wishing he was strong enough to cry. They removed the tumor and half of Brian's lung, and it was very difficult for him to breathe. He stays in the Hospital, and the doctors find out, after the tests that the tumor was cancerous.
Brian get weaker, and weaker, but he keeps feeling stronger and stronger. He thinks he will overcome the cancer, and go back to play for the Bears. After Brian's second tests, the doctors find more of the tumor. Joy Piccolo flys Gale and Linda Sayers in to tell them the horrid news. Gale went to see Brian, after the doctors removed the rest of his lung. Brian Piccolo fought cancer for three years before leaving his wife, 3 beautiful daughters, and all his loving friends and relatives.
Long live Brian Piccolo, the mighty mighty Football player, who fought until he couldn't anymore...
This book was a real tear-jerker, and it's one of the most excellent book I ever read.
