Title: Baseball Championship
“Crack!”
“Ahhhh!” The crowd goes wild.
I know I was ready to be on a baseball team. What I didn’t know was how I was going to react to the team and how the team was going to react to me. Nor did I know if I would have perseverance.
The morning of the tryouts had arrived. I was hoping I would get on the team. I hit 7out of 12 balls that we had to hit.
“I will announce who made the team tomorrow,” said the coach.
The next day…
The coach yelled out the people’s names and did not call my name. Then he said, “I forgot somebody. Orlando is on the team too.”
Finally - the first big game. This is our day to win the baseball game. We played but went out with disappointment. From that day forward I knew that I had to practice harder and harder. My big brother helped me become a better player. I knew I was ready for what came at us next.
The second game was here. I hoped that we’d win this time, but it didn’t matter because we lost again. I walked away today very disappointed and decided to quit. My team tried to convince me to stay on the baseball team. I didn’t.
One day the team called me. They were in the championship.
“We are losing. We need your help!”
It was the bottom of the eighth inning. The score was 2 runs for us and 5 runs for the opponents. The opponents had made a lot of homeruns. They started to play again and our team made it up to 3. They were still losing by 2. I arrived at the field and began talking with the coach.
The coach said, “You can’t get in the game.”
Then D.J. said, “If you don’t let him in I’m going to quit.”
“Me-too! Me-too!” everybody yelled.
The coach said, “All right. He is back in the game.”
It was the ninth inning. Our only hope was to make a lot of homeruns. D.J. went in first. Strike one. D.J. closed his eyes and whacked a homerun. The score was tied.
“I don’t think we can win even if we put our minds to it.”
“Yes we can!” shouted the team.
We said a prayer.
“Please Lord give us all the energy that we need, just let us win this and we promise not to let you down.”
It was my chance to shine. I wasn’t going to let anything else into my mind, only winning this game. The first pitch was a strike. I closed my eyes and swung at the ball and I actually hit the ball. Three people ran to home plate. The score was 8 to 5 - we had won the game!
And the crowd went wild.
