Title: Who Will Be My Friend?

While looking out my window,
I saw a boy rush by.
In the forest he did go,
His tears just seemed to fly.

After him I followed,
I just couldn’t let him go
For all the trees were hollowed,
And the ground covered in snow.

While walking toward a clearing,
A glint had caught my eye.
To the boy sat crying,
As if about to die.

I found the boy in the brush,
Sniffling and wiping his tears.
I told the boy quietly to hush,
And silence all his fears.

“I don’t have a friend.” He said.
“I’m out here all alone.”
“I’m not liked at all.” He said.
“So I’m not going home.”

The bullies there they tease me,
The girls all laugh and gawk.
The boys all like to hit me,
And make fun of how I talk.

So, what’s the point of living?
What’s the reason to go on?
Who will really notice me?
After I am gone?

With that, the boy got up and ran,
Still carrying his heavy yoke.
He did not get too far when,
The ice beneath him broke.

I raced out to save him,
“Grab my hand!” I cried.
He refused, but said instead.
“It’s better if I died.”

With that he took his lasting breath,
And sunk beneath the ice.
To young a youth to taste death,
Yet he paid the ultimate price.

While looking out my window,
The boy still rushes by
But why did he have to go?
Why did he have to die?
