Title: It's More About The Journey Itself Than The Destin

Every year I go to one place...the small but exciting island of Taiwan. You, the faithful reader, might be thinking right now, ' Great. Exciting. Whatever. Wouldn't it be monotonous to travel to the same place over and over again?' Surprisingly, no.
So as Christmas was nearing, I was preparing to go there....AGAIN. But that year, I felt as if things might be different this year. I needed some reassuring, I told myself. Thus, I sauntered casually to where my parents were chatting (probably about boring stuff like bills and insurance) and asked, ever so lightly, ' Mom? Dad? Where are we going this year?' My dad didn't say anything, but my mom's reply shocked me. We 'might' go to Shanghai this year! It was a really big surprise, but I don't think I had a heart attack...
'Gate 19 is now closing....' came out of the invisible intercom above our heads as we had some drinks at the airport cafe. I tapped my parents' shoulders and reminded them that we were here to go somewhere, not to eat a lot. They didn't appreciate my lecturing. But they stood up and we rushed to Gate 19 anyway.
Safely on the airplane, I took out the book I was reading for the 6th time and....well, read. The 13 hours past by in a rush, with dinner, a snack(consisting of a cup of noodles, a fortune cookie, and an apple all wrapped up in a small box), and breakfast(an omelet).
My legs were stiff as we came out of the Shanghai airport. I complained to my parents-they paid no heed to my whining and got on the van my grandparents had rented(along with the driver-but my parents didn't get on the driver, only the van). We arrived at my grandparents' apartment(quite large, considering that it was an apartment). I sat down on the medium-stuffed sofa and sunk low on the cushion. I picked up the remote conrtol in front of me gingerly and turned on-guess what-the TV. It was really big, set against a light emerald-colored plastic background(3D). There was absolutely nothing fascinating on so I left the TV on(my parents wanted to watch) and peered out the window. Shanghai was a beautiful city at night-when the darkness wound itself throughout the streets, small but bright lights shone through. This created a brilliant sight.
We never ate a home-cooked meal once on our entire vacation. The week we stayed at China we examined and mostly tasted steamed buns, many types of noodles, dumplings, desserts, and pumpkin pastries. We ate, ate, and ate. But we also went on sightseeing trips-in a van. It was completely boring. Still, there were 3 highlights of the trip. One: Going on the huge wooden ship and being almost frozen to death but getting to see the famous(Ithink) Jin Mao Tower. Two: Going into the Jin Mao Tower itself but not at night and experiencing the one-second, stomach-churning, elevator ride up the at least 100th story building(I think so too). Three: Riding a hand-rowed boat (very unsteady, mind you) along a river and touring some very old buildings before that.
All in all, the trip was one that I would definetly remember. It would stay forever in my memory as the first time I went to China and experienced the food, brilliance of the dizzying-tall towers, and culture(but mostly food). I hope you enjoyed reading this!
