Title: Secret Code Chapter 4
Chapter three
Becca has just arrived, and they are planning on going into the house.
It wasn't that hard sneeking out of the house. Bryn walked barefooted across the lawn, wearing the same pajamas as she did the night before. She held a flashlight in her hand, and so did Becca. It seemed to be forever before they finally reached the house. Unlike in the day, it looked old and if it was waiting for them.
'Let's go in through the window,' Becca said pointing at an open window above the porch. Bryn was afraid the gutter they were climbing would break, but it firmly supported them, and they were in the house. They were on the ground floor, Bryn could see that. They must have been in the dining room, for there was an old table and four chairs. A door was propped barely open on the right of the dining room, and an archway led into what must have been the living room.
'We should probably split up, or not,' Becca suggested seeing the look on Bryn's face. Bryn didn't really want to be alone.
'No no no, it's a good idea, let's....' Bryn cut off, and Becca let out a little shriek. Something dropped down from the window and landed on the floor with a thud. Bryn thought it was, first, the person who was trying to stop them, but with a closer look, Bryn realized it was worse than that.
'Katrina!' Bryn yelled unable to control her anger. 'What are you doing here? You nearly frightened me, ok, us, to death!' Katrina looked at them through innocent eyes.
'I am following you, I want to help you, of course,' Katrina sat up and looked around. 'So, what's the plan?'
'LEAVE!' Becca yelled almost throughing a piece of splintered wood at her. But Bryn caught her hand and held her back.
'Just look for anything suspicious, any clues at all,' Bryn said. As she caught Becca's confused look, she whispered, 'She can help, and besides, two alone can't solve this case.
'I'll take the kitchen, and Becca can take the living room. Why don't.... ah ha, why don't you keep watch?' Bryn said. Becca walked into the living room, her flashlight in her hand. Katrina sighed and followed Becca. Bryn looked at the kitchen door, and she opened it.
At first she saw absolutely nothing; the room was too dark. She turned on her flashlight and shrieked with fright. The whole room was splattered with blood. Bryn looked around, frightened, and knocked down a few jars as she reached for the light. She was shaking really hard. Becca and Katrina came rushing in, and they too, stopped dead and gasped. Bryn didn't realize the body until after she turned on the lights. She reconized it as the old man, Tom.
'What HAPPENED?' Becca gasped. All three of them stared at the body for a few minutes, unable to guess what happened.
'He was murdered! And by how shiny and runny this blo.... this blood looks, I say we came right before he... well, you know,' Bryn suggested looking at the walls. And that was when she noticed the other thing, meaning no more sense as the other things.
Words were written on the wall. And Bryn noticed the rushed handwriting emediately from the note she had gotten. The words plainly said: I told you not to go looking into this case
