Title: Number the stars
I read this book in 5th grade. It is about a girl named Annemarie who had a friend named Ellen. Ellen was a Jew and the Germans were trying to kill them. Anne marie's family takes Ellen in while her parents escape. When nazi soldiers come to find Ellen's family they can't be found. They ask Annemarie's parents where they went. They say they do not know. After that incident they know the soldiers were getting suspicious. Annemarie's mother dicides to take them to her brother Henrik's house. A while after they get there Annemarie was begining to feel like something wasn't right when her uncle and mother started talking about a great aunt who had died. You see she knew every one of her relatives and had never heard of this great aunt. When she questons her uncle he says that there is no aunt yet they must talk this way. A few nights latter a coffin was brought to Henrik's house and 'friends' of annemarie's great aunt show up. When Ellen is reunited with her parents Annemarie begins to realize that these people are Jews. Uncle Henrik must take these jews and a little packet to Sweden. He leaves and is to set sail the next morning. Without the packet he will not be able to gst them there. the next morning Annemarie went outside and spotted the packet on the ground. She tells her mother who tels her to take it to him right away. on her way some soldiers stop her. Will Annemarie get the packet to her Uncle in time? What are the contents of the packet?
