Title: Sara (chapter 1)

Sara, Chrissy, Darren, Sue and Tony Burn’s are one big happy family. Sara, Chrissy and Darren are brother and sister and Sue and Tony are their mum and dad. Sara’s the oldest and Chrissy and Darren are twins. They lived in England but then moved to Darwin, Australia the capital of the Northern Territory. As you may have heard Darwin is a major danger to natural disasters. Anyway let’s begin the story. Sara writes to her dairy every day. This is what the story’s about.

Sara 12/12/74 3:45 pm
Dear dairy,
Today at school Claire and her gang of girls teased me because mum bought me new glasses. They called me the usual names but it still really hurts. I’ve told mum, the principal, my teacher and everyone else I could think of but they all say the same thing ‘don’t worry just ignore them and remember sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never harm me!’ We’ll guess what? They do!
I got home for school and trudged up the stairs and flung my bang into the corner. I could hear mum and dad arguing in the background, again. I got out my Easter chocolate and started gulping it down. (Chocolate always makes me calm down) I got out my homework and started it. By 6:00 it was done, just in time for dinner!
For dinner we had: Roast beef, potato, broccoli, and stinky carrots, yuk! I ate all my food and then got ready for bed. As I was brushing my teeth dad came in an asked me how school was. I said the usual. I better go now cause I need to go to bed and mum’s coming up the stairs. Good bye.

Sara 13/12/74 5:00 am
Dear dairy,
The garbage trucks outside and they’re making more noise than usual. I woke as soon as I heard it. I may as well go have breakfast now that I’m awake.
After I was ready for school I sat down and watched some television before the school bus came.

After school I staggered into the living room exhausted from my sport lesson today and saw mum and dad on the couch and Chrissy and Darren crying as they ran up the stairs. “Sit down Sara.” Said mum in an uneasy voice. “Your mother and I have decided to separate.” Dad said stumberling as he spoke. A million thoughts rushed through my head all at once. It was like I didn’t know what to think as if it was a nightmare.
I slumped up all the stairs bewildered of what had just happened. As I sat on my bed I burst out in tears. I had better go now; I’ve got lots to do.
