Title: The Oogleburger.
Grumble grumble squirm. That was my stomach, on September 19, 2010. I was so hungry that I would eat a hippo.
IF I could find a hippo, that is. I doubted it. There were hardly any rats in New York City, after the Laughing Virus and all. The disease had spread throughout Americe and into Canada. It made people laugh hysterically, and they usually couldn't stop, so they had to be locked up in an asylum. The rats and most of the animals were so afraid that they ran away in terror.
So there I was, standing on a main street in New York City, with only a few people on the next street. I had just gotten out of 'school,' or what was left of it. There were only a few teachers, and most of the kids just never came back, whether or not they had the virus.
I looked around. All of the diners were closed. Or at least, ALMOST all of them.
There was a small diner across he street that I had never noticed before. It had a mode spaceship on the roof. The name of it was THE OOGLEBURGER; IT'S OUT OF THIS WORLD!
' It's a nuthouse,' I muttered. ' But I'm hungry, and mom won't be back until five.' Gathering my courage, I walked across the street and into the diner.
A cloud of green smoke greeted me. Coughing, I waved it away.
At the counter sat a man. His head twitched from side to side. His skin looked kind of stretched.
I sat down on a stool. ' Hi,' I said.
No answer. He just stared at me.
' Hello!' I said again. I snapped my fingers in front of him, but nothing happened.
' Oh, I'm sorry,' a voice said. I looked up and saw a girl coming out of the kitchen. ' Ever since we got here he's been acting spaced out.'
